How to make a Discord bot without coding
You can make a custom Discord bot by drawing what it does instead of writing it. Here is the whole path, from nothing to a bot answering a command in your server. It takes about 10 minutes.
Steps
Create a Discord application
Go to the Discord Developer Portal, choose New Application and name it. Open its Bot page and copy the token. Treat it like a password.
Make a bot in Buildcord
Sign up for a free account and create a bot. Start with the examples if you want working commands to take apart, or start empty.
Draw a slash command
Add a flow, choose Slash command and name it, such as
/hello. Then add a Reply step and connect the command to it. Type what the bot should say.Connect your token
Paste the token into the bot's settings. Buildcord stores it encrypted and never shows it again.
Add the bot to your server
Use the invite link in settings. It asks for only the permissions your flows need.
Deploy
Press Deploy. Buildcord checks the bot, publishes it as version 1 and registers its commands. Type
/helloin your server to see it answer.
Good to know
- Bots that only answer slash commands run free on Buildcord's shared service, with buttons, menus, forms, embeds and stored data.
- A bot that reacts to events, such as new members, or runs on a schedule needs the Paid plan, which is $8 a month.
- If you'd rather describe the bot than draw it, the built-in AI agent can add the steps for you.
Questions
Do I need to host the bot myself?
No. Buildcord runs it after you deploy.
Is it really free?
The Free plan runs up to three bots that answer slash commands. Bots that stay connected to Discord are on the $8-a-month Paid plan.
